Welcome to Framlingham Castle!

Posted on 2nd September, 2009 by Seb

Framlingham is a quaint little market town in the glorious county of Suffolk, often reffered to as 'Fram' by the locals has many a sight and scene. One in particular has always taken my fancy.

Framlingham Castle

The main walls of this historic building are built with flint and is unusual especially for a castle built in this time period.

We believe the castle to have been founded by Raedwald, who was one of the most powerful kings of the East Angles sometime between A.D. 599 and 624.

Framlingham Castle is an excellent example of 12th century engineering and was built by one of the most powerful people of that century.

Tickets to this attraction are available from the English-Heritage society and start from as little as £2.90 for a child up to £5.70 for an adult, of course this attraction is free for English Heritage Members.

So why not take a visit to the fantastic Framlingham and visit our Castle.

Where is it?

Framlingham is a little market village in Woodbridge, Suffolk, much loved by the locals who refer to it as “Fram”. Due to its friendly atmosphere, low house prices and scenic views, Framlingham was voted the number one place in the country to live by County Life magazine in 2006. The castle itself is located just by the aptly named Castle public house just off the Market Square.

What else can you see there?

Aside from the Castle itself, it is a fantastic place to see migrating birds thanks to the marshes on the grounds of Framlingham Castle. The stream and rare sedge beds are home to a plethora of wildlife and is a popular spot for twitchers and walkers alike.

When is it open?

Aside from the week surrounding Christmas and New Year, Framlingham Castle is open all year round, Monday to Sunday. It’s open from 10am every day and closes at 4pm in the winter months (2nd November to 31st March), 5pm in mild months (1st April to 30th June and 1st September to 1st November) and until 6pm in summer (1st July to 31st August).

How much does it cost?

An adult ticket costs £5.70, a child ticket is £2.90, a concession is £4.80 and a family ticket costs £14.30. English Heritage members get in free,
